Minnesota Sunset

This Picture has many techniques. I used wet on wet, wrist flick, and blending colors for the sky and sunset. I also used the stab technique to make the trees and bushes. My subject is a sunset on the lake in Minnesota. It has multiple colors as well as the waves in the water. There is an island in the middle of the lake also. In this picture, I used line to create the waves and some clouds and I used color to blend the sunset into the sky. I also used balance to create a unified look throughout the work and movement to show how the water was moving. This picture is one of my favorite sunset pictures from Minnesota. it captures the beauty of the night and also how the lake can be very still.

Pink Flowers

In this piece, I used liquid cement to keep the vase nice and white, splatter to add texture, and wet on wet for the background. I also used the tissue paper to create the leaves by the flowers. My subject was some flowers in a vase. I started out with roses and daisies but decided to stick with all daisies. I used to balance in this artwork to balance out the flowers in the vase and emphasis by choosing pink to be the color of the flowers. I used space by filling most of the page with the flowers and then creating a background and I used color to bring the picture together. When I was painting this picture I changed a lot of things. I changed the color of the flowers and how I was going to present them in the vase. Overall, I like the outcome of this picture and feel that it is really well balanced.

Orange sky

This is a sunset in Florida taken on vacation. It depicts clouds in the sky with the sun setting in the background. A thick layer of grass leads to the sandy beach flowing into the aqua blue water. Silhouettes of a palm tree and umbrellas stand out in the foreground and fade towards the background. Line is used to create ripples in the water as well as the effect of uneven sand. The orange sky and clouds show different types of value as well as the mixed shades of green in the grass. The sun’s bright color gives emphasis and draws the eye towards it. The waves give off a pattern that looks as if it is moving.

This painting was painted with watercolor. A variety of techniques were used such as wet on wet, dry brush, and splatter. The grass is layered with a variety of greens and browns. Also the sunset is blended with clouds that pop at the eye.

Standard Car

The subject matter I chose was an old Standard Oil sign and a 1957  Chevrolet Corvette. My grandpa owned a Standard Oil station and everyone in my family has good memories about him and the station. I really enjoy old cars. I like to go to car shows and I like to drive them too. That is why I picked an old car to paint along with the sign. I painted this piece with acrylic paint. I added some texture to the background along with movement and some line to the car and the sign. I also made the sign big to give it some emphasis. This was a fun painting to paint. It was a little challenging getting the line to look good and painting everything in proportion. Overall I think this painting came out really nice.

Portrait Painting

My subject matter is a piece of a shadow box. The shadow box has many things that belonged to my grandpa. The section I decided to paint was a section that had some little things from the station he owned. There are also a few things in there that he liked such as a Christmas tree and a soda can. The most important titem in this box was his purple heart medal he earned in WWII. I used line to give definite shape to the pictures and objects. I also used a variety of color to make certain elements stand out from the rest. I added texture to the tree in the middle to make it look as real as possible. I added unity to the whole piece to make it unified and balanced. In this painting, I have a Christmas tree, sign, pump and a medal that all remind me of my grandpa.
